In search of Multidisciplinary engineer - Patent & IP Services / Technology Scouting

Sirris is the collective centre for and by the technological industry. Driven by the industry, we advise and work with companies to turn innovation into success so that they can future-proof their product, factory and business.

Are you technologically curious in a broad sense and do you have an acute feeling on the innovation landscape, both in industry and in research environments? Do you want to make your mark by identifying industry trends and technological challenges? Are you interested in delving deeper into the field of Intellectual Property in the innovation landscape? Then you are probably in the right place in our Corporate Development team!

The mission of our Corporate Development team is to support both the companies and our own Sirris teams of experts in the following core activities:

  • Technology scouting and technology watch to identify, understand and publish important innovation trends to inspire the companies and Sirris colleagues.

  • Developing technology, strategy and industrial roadmaps to help steer content choices at Sirris.

  • The management and definition of an industry-driven portfolio of research and innovation projects.

  • Providing intellectual property services within the entire innovation process occurring at the  companies level. Being member of the Patlib 2.0 European network, our Patent Cell delivers specific information and offers a wide range of services relating to intellectual property to our client companies e.g. IP strategy, patent analysis, competition monitoring, etc..

What is your position about exactly?

  • You will initially be involved in two complementary activities of the team, namely the Patent & IP services and Technology Scouting:

- In consultation with your colleagues, you conduct IP searches and patent analyzes with and for companies.

- Through your in-depth patent analyses on specific technology topics, you will gain a broader view on Technology Scouting activity and gradually become more actively involved in this field in order to be able to deliver clear and relevant messages on future trends occurring in the industry, to which we in turn need to adjust our own strategic direction.

  • As you will grow in your role, you will become increasingly involved in the other activities of the team, including providing support to colleagues in proposals writing and in the setting up of research and innovation projects.

  • In the longer term, you will be involved in shaping our strategic innovation master plan.

What do we expect from you?

  • A solid scientific education is required (e.g. a master's degree in science or engineering). You have at least a first working experience in an R&D context, in industry or in the academic environment.

  • You have a broad technological interest in acquiring knowledge and insights in other technology domains located outside of your domain-specific expertise.

  • Experience with IP is an asset but not a requirement. In any case, you are strongly motivated to learn about IP and patent knowledge. You are digital savvy in order to optimise things and to use a modern approach to data sources.

  • You are analytical and can develop a vision in both breadth and depth. This enables you to structure, analyse, collate, interpret and identify trends in various technological fields.

  • You succeed in presenting your conclusions in a clear narrative, both in written reports and in presentations for your target group. Good writing and communication skills are required, in Dutch and/or French but also in English.

  • You like to go outside of your comfort zone and are not afraid to learn new things. You take initiative, are driven and enterprising in order to deliver quality results that contribute to the realisation of the objectives.

  • You look forward to building a network of internal and external parties. You have good advisory skills to point companies in the right direction and to guide colleagues. In doing so, you are meticulous and operationally hands-on.

What do we offer you?

As a Sirris expert you actively participate in top projects at Belgian companies. You build up knowledge and experience in the most advanced technologies. Every day you experience the satisfaction of knowing that you are doing pioneering work. In short, you deliver innovative work in its purest form.

Flexible work, personal development and an environment in which collaboration is central, that's what Sirris stands for. We offer an attractive salary package that is completely in line with your job and experience.
