Sirris is looking for a Principal Expert Digital Security to join its '(Cyber-) Security' team. This team focuses primarily on innovative cybersecurity solutions for critical infrastructures and plays an important role in preventing serious disruptions. With this activity, Sirris is positioned at the forefront of digital security applications that will eventually find their way into all areas of the industry (OT-security). An important task, because preventing disruptions in critical infrastructures protects our economy and our society at large.
The Principal Expert Digital Security leads and shapes cutting-edge R&D projects (often in European consortia) in the rapidly evolving fields of secure data sharing, advanced digital solutions and the use of AI for the robustness and resilience of critical systems. Internally and externally, you are recognized as Sirris’ go-to authority for cyber security related matters. We are looking for a skilled strategist and partnership builder with a deep passion for digital security technologies.
Your role
Technical leadership for R&D projects, guiding the development of secure, advanced digital solutions for critical systems. Projects often focus on Operational Technologies, addressing challenges such as limited compute power and data privacy concerns. To illustrate, among others you define appropriate encryption techniques, develop the set-up of digital twins and find solutions to connect legacy hardware with new technologies.
Oversee and mentor a team of 2-4 (Senior) Data Scientists. As an inspiring leader, you build a dynamic that encourages learning and sharing of technical skills. Your advanced problem-solving skills, individually and in project teams, enable you to deliver smart high-quality results.
As a driver of digital security innovation, you engage in trend analysis. In collaboration with the Program Manager, you develop compelling strategic plans and draft case studies and proof-of-concepts.
Share knowledge and generate visibility for the Digital Security team as speaker at relevant technology congresses or events.
Maintain and grow trust-driven client relationships, identifying new business opportunities and selling the development of solutions.
Project and especially partnership management are key in this role. You interact with public authorities, industry associations, universities, clients and internal colleagues across different teams. With these partners, you communicate efficiently, maintaining oversight of timelines and deadlines and actively resolving bottlenecks when they occur. For new projects initiated by Sirris you take the lead and actively lobby with partners (existing and new) to set up collaborative R&D efforts.
10+ years' experience in Digital Security. Strong background in secure data sharing, advanced digital solutions and expertise with resource constrained IoT devices is a plus.
A relevant Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Data Science or similar background.
Analytical, curious and creative, you are driven by exploring complex technological challenges, requiring applicable and scientifically sound solutions. You can illustrate this interest with concrete innovative digital security solutions you have developed in the past years in an academic or industrial setting.
You are attracted to Sirris positioning as a knowledge center positioned at the intersection between research/innovation and business.
Experienced project manager in complex multi-stakeholder, (inter)national environments. Goal and quality oriented, you bring structure and clarity, with diplomacy and engage your stakeholders to give it their best.
Compelling speaker at events or congresses.
With your creative, dynamic approach, you fit into our collaborative and international work environment. You work independently but also maintain transparent communication lines with your colleagues. So you are a real team player, for colleagues and external partners as well.
You are fluent in English and, as our partners (including regional governments) are located across Belgium, a professional communication level in Dutch and/or French is an advantage.
Able to travel regularly in Belgium to attend client and project meetings.
At Sirris, innovation and collaboration are key. You will work in an environment where technological progress and sustainability go hand in hand. Together we make companies ready for the future.
An exciting and unique position within a dynamic and innovative team.
The opportunity to work with leading companies and technology experts who are at the heart of the industrial fabric in Belgium.
A stimulating environment where you can further develop your expertise.
Flexible working hours and the opportunity to work in one of our offices in Belgium or partially from home.
A competitive salary package with fringe benefits.
