Sirris is the collective research & technology centre for the Belgian technological industry. We cover multi-disciplinary research, development an innovation projects in many industry fields and technology theme’s. Since 2010 Sirris became highly active in the field of industrial (offshore) wind energy research and development as co-creator of the OWI-Lab, a leading expertise consortium including Sirris, VUB and UGent. It’s mission is to support onshore and offshore wind energy research, development and innovation projects that reduce the LCOE of wind energy and ensuring a strong Belgian industrial value chain. Through the OWI-Lab initiative different high tech testing infrastructures have been set-up (for example a large climatic test chamber in Antwerp where wind turbine components (and other spill-over applications) are tested in harsh climatic environments). Also, different research projects and experiments in (offshore) wind farms have been set-up to learn for example from field data to optimise the operations and maintenance of machinery.
Through technology expertise & infrastructure, innovation support services, and both national as international collaboration, we support the wind energy sector to maintain our leading role in this emerging energy industry. Within Sirris a dedicated wind energy program has been set-up to support the Belgian on -and offshore value chain with their technology challenges. This team is coordinating the OWI-Lab collaboration framework, and is executing the expanding R&D project portfolio comprising a range multi-disciplinary R&D projects.
Within this team; we are looking for a project engineer R&D and testing who will be responsible for the industrial test and validation activities in the climatic test lab in Antwerp. You will be involved in setting-up and executing applied R&D, test & demonstration projects in the climatic test lab linked to on & offshore wind energy, energy transmission, energy transition technologies (including storage, hydrogen and e-fuels) and spill-over markets.

You will coordinate the technical and commercial feasibility checks of climatic test & validation projects in the Sirris climatic test lab in Antwerp. You will translate test requirements or test-standards from (international) customers into realistic testing campaigns in the climatic test lab. As project lead you initiate the projects after ordering in collaboration with the lab technician and other team members, follow-up the executions and close the projects after completing.
You will set up and lead (complex) electro-mechanical testing campaigns in the large climate chamber – on prototype equipment including instrumentation in collaboration with the lab technician, the customer and suppliers or partners.
You will also be involved in the commercial aspect of the offerings of the test-lab.
You will be leading the operations and maintenance activities of the climatic test lab and it’s test infrastructure in collaboration with the lab technician.
You will execute work packages of R&D projects or tasks linked to the wind energy program of Sirris – you will be involved as R&D engineer in research projects with a focus on instrumentation, testing and demonstration.
You will be leading the development and the commissioning of a new ice spray test bench that will be used for fundamental and industrial research projects.
You will be involved in developing opportunities of expanding the lab capabilities in respect to the testing of multi-MW wind turbine components, hydrogen applications or other opportunities that cross you day-to-day operations in regard to continuous improvements of the test lab.
