Would you like to work as a project and test engineer in our large climate chamber, a high-tech test facility where wind turbine components, energy systems and other large and heavy applications are tested under extreme climatic conditions? Does this kind of adventurous role appeal to you, where you’d play an active, hands-on part as a project engineer in multidisciplinary research, development and innovation projects across numerous industries and various technological fields? Then read on!
You will translate clients’ test requests into feasible test plans in collaboration with the lab manager. This involves test projects for large and heavy machinery from various sectors (on- and offshore wind, energy transition, off-highway, oil & gas, defence) in collaboration with international industrial players.
You will be independently responsible for the planning and coordination of all aspects of these climatic test campaigns.
You will be responsible for the practical execution of the necessary logistical operations at the port, the operation of the test infrastructure (both our permanent and our new mobile climate chamber), the provision of the necessary sensor equipment, as well as data collection and reporting.
You will independently lead and manage climatic testing and validation projects from start to finish in consultation with the team and the client; in doing so, you will set up (complex) electromechanical test campaigns and oversee operational and maintenance activities in collaboration with the laboratory manager, the client and suppliers or partners.
You will also collaborate in a multidisciplinary manner with other Sirris teams, taking a hands-on lead on additional test campaigns (including the corrosion test rig, etc.)
You will help to design and build new set-ups for electromechanical testing, fit out the test objects with instrumentation, check and monitor the climate chamber during testing, and make adjustments where necessary. You will work effectively with a range of tools and measuring equipment.
You will adhere to safety procedures whilst carrying out the tests.
You have a strong awareness of risks and know how to manage them (electrical risks BA4–BA5, high voltage)
In addition to the test and demonstration projects in the climatic test laboratory, you will also play an active role in setting up and carrying out applied R&D projects related to wind energy and/or the energy transition in general
You hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electromechanics (or equivalent based on experience).
You have experience with and an understanding of testing and validation, instrumentation and measurement set-ups (sensors, data acquisition systems).
You possess a good dose of technical common sense. A willingness to learn is at least as important as experience.
You have strong analytical skills, are committed to quality, have a hands-on approach and are flexible
You have strong project management and organisational skills and can cope well under pressure.
You have a hands-on approach and enjoy carrying out practical implementations on prototypes of the installation, such as installing sensors and data acquisition set-ups.
You are pragmatic and practical in your approach. In addition, you possess excellent technical insight combined with a commercial mindset and a customer-focused attitude.
You enjoy working with others and put the team first.
You are proactive, creative and have a problem-solving mindset.
You have an excellent command of English and a good command of Dutch.
You are willing to travel occasionally within Belgium (to the various Sirris sites) and sometimes abroad to discuss requests from international clients or to set up the mobile climate chamber.m (to the various Sirris sites) and sometimes abroad to discuss requests from international customers.
